Why is Early learning important today?

by Lokesh Dhiran, 24 Jul 2024

Early learning has always been looked at with doubtful eyes. On one hand, there are many who feel that we rob children from enjoying their childhood by creating too much pressure. On the other hand, many parents feel the need to start early as the competition will be too fierce in the coming days.

Yes, early learning is very important for a child's development. The first few years of a child's life are critical for their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. During this time, the brain is rapidly developing, and children are learning at a very fast pace.

India slowly has been moving towards nuclear families. Not necessarily a bad thing but joint families provide the best early learning experience for a child. Joint families would always have - siblings, relatives, peer pressure, orders and expectations flying in from every direction, pampering, gifts, always a play mate readily available. Now all these roles are cramped into the parents. This creates too much pressure and a need rely on external stimuli for early learning and experiences.

Research has shown that children who receive high-quality early learning experiences tend to perform better in school, have better social skills, and are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college.

Early learning experiences can also help to prevent developmental delays and reduce the achievement gap between children from low-income and high-income families.

Therefore, it is important to provide young children with access to quality early learning experiences, such as play-based activities, reading, singing, and other interactive experiences that help to stimulate their development.

Early learning done right, is the need of the hour. Peer pressure and trying to emulate somebody else's success is bound to fail. It is imperative to understand your child's and your capability. Do it so that your child develops into the best version of himself/herself, rather than a first copy of Sharmaji ka beta/beti.
