How to encourage physical activity in your child?

by Lokesh Dhiran, 24 Jul 2024

Encouraging physical activity in children is important for their physical and mental health. Here are some tips on how to encourage your child for physical activity:

Be a role model: Children learn by example, so if you are physically active, your child is more likely to be active too.

Make it fun: Choose activities that your child enjoys, such as playing tag, riding a bike, or dancing. Make it a fun activity, not a chore.

Schedule it: Set aside a regular time each day for physical activity. This could be before or after school, on weekends, or during breaks.

Join a team: Encourage your child to join a sports team or group activity. This can help them develop teamwork skills, make new friends, and have fun while being physically active.

Use incentives: Offer rewards for achieving physical activity goals, such as a trip to the park, a healthy snack, or a fun activity.

Limit screen time: Limit the time your child spends in front of screens, such as TV, computer, or mobile devices. Encourage them to spend more time outside and being active. (Check out our blog - How to reduce screen time for Children?)

Provide equipment: Provide your child with equipment for physical activity, such as a ball, jump rope, or hula hoop.

Remember, physical activity should be enjoyable and not forced upon the child. Encourage them to try new things and find what they enjoy doing.
